The next generation of Nest thermostat is here. The Nest Thermostat E, released in fall of 2017, comes in at a lower price point than Nest’s previous models, but that doesn’t mean it’s missing any features.
The main difference? It may not work with your higher-end heating and cooling system. The Nest Thermostat E is compatible with 85% of homes. And don’t worry – Nest has a super easy tool to help you determine if your system is compatible.
With a new frosted display and a soft and subtle design, the Nest Thermostat E is physically designed to fit into the home, and technologically designed to help you heat and cool your home more efficiently.
Become more efficient with a Nest Thermostat E.
Though a programmable thermostat might create savings on your energy bill, it requires more attention and work to create energy savings. Most programmable thermostats only allow two or three changes throughout the day, and the majority of consumers resort to keeping one temperature all day. The Nest Thermostat E doesn’t just program: It learns.
How does a Nest save you energy?
- Auto-Away/ECO: Simply enough, if the Nest doesn’t detect any movement for a while and is confident you’re not home, it’ll set itself to Away/ECO mode. It won’t work right away, as the Nest has to learn what normal activity in the house looks like but rest assured – once it has learned your habits, it’ll work just fine.
- Auto-Schedule: The Nest programs itself based on how you teach it. The EPA estimates a thermostat that is programmed to your schedule can cut your heating and cooling bills by 20%. So, adjusting your Nest in the morning when you wake up, before you leave the house, when you return to the house, and before you go to bed can help it create the most efficient schedule for your family. Within two weeks your Nest will automatically learn your comfort preferences and make adjustments for you.
- The Nest Leaf: Did you know that changing your thermostat’s temperature by only 1 degree could help you cut your energy use by 5% each year? The Nest Leaf was created to show you when you’ve chosen a temperature that is “energy saving”. Each month you’ll see how many Nest Leaves you’ve earned, which can translate into real savings.
- Your Energy History: Nest keeps track of your energy usage – and your savings – throughout the month and sends you an email with all of that great insight. It’ll also give you more energy-saving tips, show you how you shape up to your neighbors who are also using Nest thermostats, and show you your most energy-efficient days.
Nest has done the research to back it up.
Nest looked at energy bills across 41 states before and after they got Nest Thermostats. The results were clear: on average, the Nest Thermostat save 10-12% on heating and 15% on cooling. Based on typical energy costs, those percentages equate to an estimated savings of up to $145 per year. You can check out the Nest Energy Savings White Paper for more of the numbers and facts.
